<p>They sell  <a title="franchises" href="http://www.becomeafranchiseowner.biz/low-cost-franchise-opportunities"><strong>franchises</strong></a>.</p>
<p>(<em>Just stating the obvious, folks</em>.)</p>
<p>It all starts with a sale, right?</p>
<p>That car you bought last year-it was a <em>sale</em>.</p>
<p>The <a title="researching franchises and appliances" href="http://www.thefranchiseking.com/researching-franchise-opportunities-are-exactly-like-researching-washing-machines">washing machine</a> that&#8217;s sitting in your laundry room-it was <em>sold</em> to you.</p>
<p>The computer or Smartphone that you&#8217;re reading this post on-it was <em>sold</em> to you, too.</p>
<p>And, speaking of sales, there are even franchise salespeople that sell <a title="sales and training opportunities in franchising" href="http://www.franchisedirect.com/directory/sandlertraining/176/" target="_blank">sales-related franchise opportunities</a>.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2>They Change Lives</h2>
<p>Salespeople have the power to change lives.</p>
<p>Yours. Mine. Their own.</p>
<p>And, it&#8217;s safe to assume that <em>you</em> are looking into franchise business ownership opportunities because you&#8217;re ready to change your life.</p>
<p>Right?</p>
<p>If my last statement was factual, let the franchise salespeople that you&#8217;re speaking with-or are about to speak with, take a shot at it.</p>

<h2>Sales Professionals</h2>
<p>Isn&#8217;t it nice to purchase something from a <em>polished</em> sales professional?</p>
<p>Not slick; <em>polished</em>.</p>
<p>Like,<a title="sales pros" href="http://thesalesblog.com/s-anthony-iannarino/" target="_blank"> Anthony</a>.</p>
<p>And, when your purchase experience rocks&#8230;when it&#8217;s memorable, doesn&#8217;t your view of the sales profession get elevated?</p>
<p>I know a lot of franchise salespeople.</p>
<p>Most of them are very polished; very professional.</p>
<p>They&#8217;re a pleasure to work with.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re buying a retail franchise business, you&#8217;re going to need these.</p>
<p><strong>Feet</strong>.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s right; you&#8217;re going to need a lot of foot traffic.</p>
<p>This foot traffic needs to start in the vicinity of your <a title="franchise business good feet" href="http://www.franchisebizdirectory.com/article/your-feet-are-the-focus-of-this-franchise-business/">franchise business</a>.</p>

<h2>Research The Franchise Opportunity</h2>
<p>It would be nice to know (<em>before you buy the retail franchise of your dreams</em>) if current franchise owners are getting it.</p>
<p>So, ask them.</p>
<p>(<em>If they&#8217;re getting a decent amount of foot traffic</em>)</p>
<p>Some of the franchisees will tell you that they are; some will tell you that they&#8217;re not.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Dig</h2>
<p>Dig deeper into their answers.</p>
<p>Find out what&#8217;s impacting their foot traffic. Ask them if the franchisor does whatever it takes to make sure that they have the best chance to get decent amounts of traffic into their stores.</p>
<p>Ask the franchisees what some of things are that they themselves have done to increase store traffic.</p>
<p>And, if you end up buying the franchise that you&#8217;re interested in, refer back to your notes.</p>
<p>Those notes&#8230;the answers you got from the 10-15 franchisees that you called and visited, have some real gems that you can use in your franchise operation.</p>

<p>You need to find out.</p>

<p>You need to figure out if it matters.</p>
<p>&#8220;<em>It</em>&#8221; being <strong>the type of franchise business you end up owning.</strong></p>
<p>I&#8217;ll put it another way.</p>
<p>If you owned a <a title="maid brigade" href="http://www.becomeafranchiseowner.biz/maid-brigade-new-franchise-opportunities">residential cleaning franchise</a>, or a <a title="jani-king cleaning services" href="http://www.franchisebizdirectory.com/article/jani-kingkeeping-it-clean/">commercial cleaning</a> franchise, would you be 100% comfortable telling everyone you know?</p>
<p>Or, would you be almost embarrassed disclosing the type of franchise business you were the owner of?</p>
<p>Think about it. Long and hard.<br />

<h2>Internal Or External?</h2>
<p>I&#8217;m no Freud&#8230;but, I am trying to get you thinking here.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t want you to end up in a business that you&#8217;re not comfortable owning.</p>
<p>Theoretically, if you found out that you&#8217;d be able to make $275,000 a year the owner of a  cleaning franchise,  but you couldn&#8217;t really <em>see</em> yourself owning one, would you buy it?</p>
<p>Think long and hard here.</p>
<p>Most <a title="franchise law rush nigut" href="http://www.rushonbusiness.com/2013/01/articles/franchise-law/lesson-1-from-hard-luck-franchisees-if-it-is-to-be-its-up-to-me/" target="_blank">franchise agreements</a> (<em>contracts</em>) last 10 years.</p>
<p>That would be a long time to be the owner of a business that you never liked in the first place-but were only interested in The Money part.</p>

<p>While I&#8217;ve got you thinking, I&#8217;d like you to read something I just wrote.</p>
